Mark & Les Harper

Mozambique, Africa

On March 4th, 2019 the East African country of Mozambique was hit by Cyclone Idai. The storm caused catastrophic damage leaving thousands dead and many more missing. As if that wasn’t bad enough, Idai was followed by Cyclone Kenneth two weeks later on April 25, 2019. Northern Mozambique was destroyed. The United Nations declared it to be the worst natural disaster in the Southern Hemisphere in living history.

Orphanos partners Mark and Les Harper are living in Southern Mozambique and immediately sprang into action creating the Mozambique Relief Coalition. Over the next 8 months Mark and Les coordinated deliveries from around the world of food, water filters, blankets, household goods, generators, medical supplies, agricultural products, and even construction of 184 new homes. All of this was done through the local church for the purpose of long term follow up with the population. 680 families were direct recipients of the aid representing many thousands of lives impacted.
