Samuel’s Sanctuary

Belize, Central America

If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
John 7:37b-38

Picture this: eager to quench your thirst, you walk to the sink, turn the faucet but find the pipes are bone dry. An important source that sustains your life, and perhaps an item you take for granted, is now gone. This situation is a reality for some in Belize (although they prefer wells over faucets).

Enter Samuel’s Sanctuary Ministries. Taking young men and employing them for the betterment of St. Margaret’s Village, SSM set out to expand and enhance the water line access to the existing water well. They plotted the line, dug miles of ground and laid piping so that the area school and medical clinic could receive gallons of water in a minute, if needed. It was just one of a host of projects these young men executed in 2020.

But the best part of this story is not the expansion of the water line, but the act of living life together. That’s the heart behind Samuel’s Sanctuary Ministries – a life discipleship process that allows the spiritually mature to guide and encourage those young in their faith.

So while the young men are digging up earth to allow water to flow through the village, they’re also being taught the source from which living water flows.
