Project Description

Starfish Babies

South Africa

Starfish Babies, a project launched under Starfish Projects NPO, provides support to Temporary Places of Safety families. These families voluntarily care for vulnerable, abused, and unwanted babies and toddlers until they can be placed back with their biological family, foster families, or adopted.

Starfish Projects was officially launched in 2020, but we believe a seed was planted many decades ago in the heart of our founder Janice. Janice has had a heart for babies and children as far back as she can remember. Her formal involvement in child-care started in 1996 when she became a registered Temporary Place of Safety and cared for countless babies and toddlers in her home.  In 2020, Janice along with a group of ladies, decided it was time to focus and formalize their efforts. They registered a Not-for-Profit Organization and Starfish Projects was born.

The support Starfish supplies includes milk formula, diapers, clothing, bedding, and most importantly, medical and specialized care. The Place of Safety families are also supported practically, emotionally and spiritually through regular contact and assistance when unforeseen circumstances arise.

Starfish Babies networks with other Child Protection Organizations, the Department of Social Development, private social workers, SA Police Service, hospitals and community clinics. We come alongside other individuals and organizations and provide them with support where we can, thus demonstrating the grace and love which we receive from our Father, and so doing, extending the reach of Starfish.
