Project Description

Heart of Hope Cambodia

Heart of Hope was birthed by the Lord in 2007 when the current executive director, Vin Sopheavy (aka “Bic”), discovered a Vietnamese fishing community near Phnom Penh where no social services were being provided. Knowing Vietnamese children in Cambodia are at increased risk for trafficking and exploitation, Bic and her ministry partner Coleen decided to reach out to these children . On December 3, 2007, 30+ grade 1 students began to study Khmer, Bible, Math, Vietnamese, health, and anti-trafficking lessons. In July of 2012, Heart of Hope registered as a Cambodian NGO and now offers kindergarten through grade 5 to children from 40 families. While Heart of Hope does not attempt to count nor press students to follow Jesus, there is evidence as students change their life choices and express their hearts to their teachers.

Seeing a need for the older youth (ages 13-25), Heart of Hope is preparing to launch The Next Generation Station, a youth and family center that will provide enrichment classes, activities, social services and a Sunday worship service in addition to the K-grade 5 program.  It is a privilege to work with these families and the excitement for what God will do in the future is high at Heart of Hope.
