Ethiopia: Andrea Hall

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

An Orphanos staff member reminded me of John 9 recently. It’s the episode where Jesus heals a man born blind. He spits on the ground, rubs saliva in the dirt and applies mud to the man’s eyes.

The man who was once blind is given the gift of sight.

If we took that historical event at face value, it’s a tremendous miracle and a sure sign that Jesus is the Messiah.

But looking through it and recognizing our reality makes it even more powerful. Each of us are born spiritually blind, but God gives us sight to see our sin and the beauty of a Savior who bears that sin.

I thought about that as I read the recent update from Andrea Hall. Andrea’s been serving at the International Evangelical Church in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. She works alongside Steve and Margaret Winstead, another Orphanos partner you may be familiar with.

Part of Andrea’s responsibilities include involvement in various local ministries. One of those is with a group called Yetesfa.

Yetesfa is a ministry that impacts girls in a nearby community. Andrea joins moms, teachers and other women each week and walks into a place of spiritual darkness.

Here’s what Andrea said:

There has been a lot of openness and heart change lately, especially among the older girls. They are wanting to read and study the Bible for themselves. In the midst of this, we have gotten the opportunity to teach them Scripture and watch eyes light up with excitement about the Lord. These have been such exciting and special moments.

She’s had the opportunity to watch eyes light up! What an overwhelming privilege.

Andrea rightfully credits the Holy Spirit’s working in these light-bulb moments. Ultimately, Andrea is “trusting that He who began a good work in these girls will bring it to completion.”

Take a minute today and join me in prayer for Andrea and these girls. Pray that these girls would long for more of Christ in their hearts and minds.

Take another minute and do just what the blind man did in John 9:38 by worshipping God for granting sight to the blind!

Grace & Peace,
