la aljaba children's home in colombia
La Aljaba children’s home is an institution that assist abandoned and poor children to improve their quality of life by giving them the opportunity to benefit from integral development and to contribute in the construction of new generations with Christian principles and values.
La Aljaba is a home for children that embodies our commitment towards the call from God that says in the Bible: “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it” Prov. 22:6 (NIV).
We provide for children from 5 to 17 years of age in situations of extreme poverty or need. We offer assistance in four development areas: physical, cognitive, spiritual and emotional well being. Encouraged by the love of God and Jesus as a model of service to your neighbor and providing help to people in need and those who suffer in poverty. Our vision is this: inspired by God’s love and obeying His calling, we will impact the Amazon community by teaching Christian values and principles to the children for future generations.
An American Pastor began our work to help child in the Amazon region. We began activities in April 2004, with 8 children. Five of these were abandoned by their mother and three were in extreme poverty.
During 2004 we assisted a total of 17 children in the home with good nutrition, health care, teaching them hygiene, good manners and self-esteem. The children older than 5 years began to go to school and their performance improved tremendously.
Currently we provide a full day care, tutoring, daily nutritional meals for 75 children and provide 24 hour care for about 24 children. We also extend our reach to the community by providing family counseling and parenting classes monthly, sending daily food rations to 100 children who live in extreme poverty on the edge of the jungle, and providing consulting to other children's ministries for 50 miles up and down the Amazon River.
