Editions 66:  July 13th 2009

[Salutation],  Thank you in advance for your prayers and your support.

From your friends at Orphanos

SCRIPTURAL ENCOURAGEMENTS

‘With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from your commandments! Your word I have hidden in my heart, that I Might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord! Teach me your statutes.’ Psalm 119 v 10 - 13.

ORPHANOS

A team of 5 leaves today to travel to Brazil to visit Lar Batista and Lar Tia Edna.  Please pray for them as they spend time with the children in Brazil.  This team follows behind the team from Iowa and will help the girls decorate their newly painted dorm.  The team will also visit a home that Orphanos is becoming more involved with, Lar Tia Edna.

  • Please pray for safe travels for this team.

  • Please pray that the time with the children will be a blessing to both the children and the team members.

  • Please pray for the growth of a partnership as the team visits Lar Tia Edna for the first time.

CHILD SEXUAL EXPLOITATION - INDIA

The causes of sexual exploitation of children are many and varied, from poverty and unemployment, drug and alcohol abuse, corruption, expansion of organized crime and trafficking of children right through to the low status of girls in many countries, illiteracy and lack of education, inadequate or non – enforced laws, and the increase of pornography and promotion of sex tours on the internet. July 2nd – 4th, Viva India held a conference in South India on child sexual exploitation. Dr Shantanu Dutta, Viva’s India director, states that the main purpose of the conference was to influence church leaders and organization heads to become engaged in the issues around child sexual exploitation and in combating such exploitation.

  • Pray that the issues will be effectively understood by the delegates who attended.

  • Pray especially that the conference be significantly used to increase action and advocacy on behalf of sexually exploited children.

HONDURAS

Honduras, one of Latin America’s poorest countries has experienced a military coup. The ousted president, now in Costa Rica, called on unions, workers and peasant and indigenous organizations to demonstrate peacefully for his return. “I ask the people of Honduras to be calm, but for them to defend their democracy and rights,” he said.

  • Pray for this situation to be resolved without bloodshed.

  • Pray that the impact of this political situation on youth and children would be for good and not for harm.

  • Pray that someone in a place of influence would have a Godly generational world view and be positioned to influence for good.

  • Let us also remember the situation in Iran and pray that at this historic moment when there is a window of opportunity for change in these Nations that there would be great and good decisions made.

  • Pray that God’s Kingdom would come and His will be done on earth as in heaven.

QIS

We have previously mentioned this very effective training system which is being rolled out through various networks around the world. It is exciting to see how God is using this resource and encouraging hearing testimonies of how projects and ministries are benefiting. Designed and based around 6 modules of training, these include; ‘Project planning and design’, ‘Child Protection’, ‘People Care’, ‘Child Well being’, ‘Governance’, and ‘Financial Accountability’. The obvious knock on effect truly impacts the lives of children for the better. Please pray specifically for the following locations -

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA

  • Praise God for the funding which has started to come which has enabled QIS to go live in Cape Town in July.

  • Please pray that at least 24 of the 80+ network members will be inspired to sign up and commit to the 2 year training cycle.

  • Please pray for the network team and staff as they gear up for delivery of QIS.

  • Please pray for the appointment of the right QIS coordinator.

COCHABAMBA, BOLIVIA

  • Praise God that reports from workshops carried out give testimony to the effectiveness and challenge of the different modules studied.

  • The People Care module has been really useful for the directors of organizations to become motivated to look after staff. Please pray for the staff involved at grass roots in caring for the children, that they would be encouraged and strengthened.

COSTA RICA

  • Please pray for the verification team who will be visiting all the projects this month to verify the Child Protection module. May God lead them in wisdom and understanding.

  • Pray for the projects and organizations, that they would be well prepared for the evaluation and that QIS would continue to help them improve and continue to grow with quality service for the children.

  • Pray for the children suffering from severe domestic violence in most of the communities of the QIS participants.

  • Pray that funding would enable the organizations and projects to be able to complete the changes necessary throughout the QIS process.

KAMPALA, UGANDA

  • People have now received training in People Care and Child Protection and are now in the process of implementation. The change is difficult for many. Please pray that staff and directors would be inspired and equipped to press into the very best God has for them and the children they serve.

  • The next workshops on governance will be happening on 15th July and 14th August. Please pray for the planning and preparation that goes into the delivery of these workshops.

FUTURE PLANS

We would love to see doors open and provision for funding for QIS to begin in other networks around the world. Please pray with us for opportunity and breakthrough in finances to implement QIS in Nairobi, Kenya, Hyderabad, India, Cambodia and Philippines where the networks are already in place and waiting patiently for this resource.

Thank you for praying.
