ORPHANOS

Hebrews 4:16 says, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need."

Our partner home in Colombia, La Aljaba, needs our prayer.  Bats have taken over the inside of the roof of the main house and are destroying it.  Bat waste is leaking from the roof onto the private living quarters of the director, Lucy Palma, and areas where the children walk and play. This is a sizeable health hazard that could cause the home to be shut down by the Colombian Health department.  Please pray that God will provide funding for the roof repair so that Lucy and the children can have a healthy place to live and play. Orphanos is sending a team to La Aljaba in February and are struggling to raise the $5,500 to cover this project.

  • Pray that God will provide complete funding for this project.

  • Pray for the Orphanos team going to La Aljaba, February 12th through the 17th.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT SYSTEM –

Too often projects working with children at risk face seemingly insurmountable problems – isolation, discouragement, lack of skills, funding or resources. A crushingly high number of projects working with children at risk fail in their first few years. Drawing on insight and expertise that Viva staff have developed through years of working closely with projects like these, we have been able to offer the Quality Improvement System, (QIS) a new and exciting training system. It’s a highly effective tool for helping organizations to improve the quality and impact of their work with children. It works to biblical principles and internationally recognized standards in six key areas:

Child protection, people care, project planning and design, financial accountability, governance and child wellbeing.

  • Pray for the roll out of this training in Africa where the CRANE network in Kampala are now on the 2nd cycle of QIS training.

  • Pray for the projects who participated in the 1st cycle that they would know great fruitfulness and benefits while still continuing to improve and benefit the children they care for.

  • Praise God for the significant improvements that have been made already – thanks to QIS in Cochabamba, Bolivia, improvements have been made to the living conditions of over one thousand children at risk.

  • Pray for the 180 projects across Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, India, Peru and South Africa who are currently undergoing training. That they would be encouraged, resourced, trained and equipped to better care for the children.

  • Pray for into the plans to expand training into Kenya, Nicaragua and El Salvador.

  • Pray for all the mentors and staff involved in training project workers that they would be strengthened and encouraged.

STREET CHILDREN

We are so privileged to receive news from partner organizations and hear of the great work that is being done to help children at risk. We were encouraged recently by news from Action who request prayer for additional missionaries to work in Africa where the AIDS pandemic has affected so many countries.

They need 20 additional missionaries to work with street children in the Philippines and 80 more to reach out to children in Africa, Asia and Latin America.

  • Pray for ACTION’S, AIDS & Orphan Crisis Care & Evangelism Ministry in Africa, that they will continue to reach people with the relevant and compassionate love of Jesus.

PALESTINE, ISRAEL

We are thankful that today Israel pulled the last troop out of Gaza. This war has affected the children of Gaza, who make up more than half of the crowded 1.4 million people there. The children are the most defenseless victims of the war between Israel and Hamas. The U.N. Children's Fund says 840,000 children in Gaza are under extreme stress and are traumatized by the violent events of the past few weeks. UNICEF warns of long-lasting psychological consequences for thousands of children caught up in the Israeli- Hamas conflict in Gaza.

  • Pray that Israeli troops on the border hold to the three-day-old truce and that provocation by Hamas will cease.

  • Pray that as families begin to rebuild their lives, there will be opportunity for Christians to get alongside and minister to needs.

  • Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.
