Orphanos - Colombia

Our president just returned yesterday from another visit to La Aljaba children's home in the Amazon jungle. Our partner Lucy Palma is working with more than 100 children of indigenous peoples and native Colombians. Lucy is asking for immediate prayer and assistance regarding several issues.  Due to economic realities, the home's regular funding has been cut by the owners of the ministry by almost 50%. Also she is asking for prayer about some home repairs that need to be completed to resolve health issues for her and the children (it has to do with Bats in the attic and their waste products getting into the living areas of the children).

  • Pray that God will quickly provide the funding necessary to keep all the children at the home.
  • Pray that Lucy will have wisdom in all her dealings with the owners of the ministry (who live in North America and visit occasionally).
  • Pray for Lucy's health and encouragement as well as the health of the children.

Orphanos - Home Office

Orphanos is in need of a few good volunteers! If you're an adult, live in the Memphis, TN area and can give at least 3 hours a week for several weeks in October or November, then we could sure use your help! Please contact Jennie Brooks at 901.458.9500 or jennie@orphanos.org

MDG’S

The Millennium Development Goals are 8 targets which have been set which would vastly improve the state of the world and help work towards eradicating much human suffering. Goal 2 is to do with promoting universal education, giving access to primary schooling for all children. 4 out of 10 primary age children in sub Saharan Africa do not go to school. There are many and varied reasons for this; Illness, household responsibilities, lack of money for school fees or no adults taking responsibility.

  • Pray that there would be a continual prompting of those in positions of influence to promote progress towards this goal.
  • Thank God for teachers who clearly love and value children and pray for head teachers such as the headmaster of Ogwarat Primary school in Northern Uganda. Brother Eklou Ali in Togo and Sister Yvonne in Kinshasa DRC.
  • Pray for the work of Cord who have built four Primary schools in Burundi which are now opened for the new school term. Pray for them as they face the challenge of equipping these centres.with the resources needed.
  • Praise God with Cord that Bredjing Refugee Camp, Chad received a shipment of English books which will go a long way to help the 400 students who meet 6 nights for extra study and have been reliant on a few books dating back to 1950’s!

BIHAR STATE, NORTH INDIA

There has been severe flooding over recent time and much displacement and upset as a consequence. Already one of the poorest areas of India there is much physical need and much continued prayer needed for the children.

  • Pray for families and communities as they start to rebuild. For hope to arise and encouragement and support.
  • Pray for sensitivity and awareness towards the children who have been affected by the disruption to their communities.
  • Pray that support and infra structure would be fairly and justly distributed and established in this area.
  • Pray blessing upon the Christian leaders that God has appointed as watchmen over this area. That they would know wisdom from heaven and example the hands and feet of Jesus to those they serve.

REFUGEE CAMPS

The number of refugee camps globally is increasing significantly, with over 12 million refugees worldwide. Imagine a child, after hours or even days of torturous journeying, finding shelter far away, in a squalid tent, maybe separated from their main care provider or any responsible adult. Alone and confused, dependent on handouts of food, possibly with no cleaning water or access to health care with consequent outbreaks of cholera, dysentery, hepatitis, malaria and other diseases.

Imagine……

  • Now pray for the many children displaced and confused in our world as you are led by the Holy Spirit.
  • Thank God for ministries and organizations who respond compassionately to the needs of children in refugee camps.
  • Pray for DEYWA working in Northern Uganda and Sudan and the work of Pastor Simon Peter as he reaches out to children and people affected by violence in these areas.
  • Pray for the children, families and residents of the refugee camps he visits. The needs are vast at Kalma refugee camp in Sudan and at Unyama and Bobi camps in Uganda.
  • Pray for the physical needs of the children and people in these camps—for food, water, clothing, blankets, medical care, cooking pots, proper shelter.
  • Pray for their emotional and spiritual needs—for pastors to minister to their spiritual health and visitors to bring encouragement and be a voice to the outside world for the suffering that is going on in these camps.
