Finding Comfort In The Lord During This Time

posted by Jennifer Ragland — February 10th, 2010

This past year has been very difficult for me and my family.  I have held Jeremiah 29:11 close to heart because through these storms I know that God has a plan to prosper and not to harm, he gives us hope and a future.  Right now with the recent loss of my sister-in-law it is hard to understand God's plan.  Why would he take her at 34 and leave her 13 year old daughter?  How is the Lord going to use this to bring Glory to Himself?  I may never know the answers to these questions and others but as believers we can always turn to the Psalms for comfort, specifically Psalm 91 (I have included this chapter below).  David tells us to dwell in the secret place of the Most High, to set our love upon Him to know His name, and to call upon Him.  Another comforting scripture is 1 Peter 5:7, Let the Lord have all your worries and cares, for He is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.

Thank you Lord for the peace in knowing that you do have a plan and are watching over us.  Be our protector during this time and help us to look to you for our comfort and peace.   May we all rest in the peace and joy found in Romans 5:1-5.  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.

Thank you for your prayers during this time!  May the Lord bless and keep each one of you.

Psalm 91

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
       will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

 2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress,
       my God, in whom I trust."

 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler's snare
       and from the deadly pestilence.

 4 He will cover you with his feathers,
       and under his wings you will find refuge;
       his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

 5 You will not fear the terror of night,
       nor the arrow that flies by day,

 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness,
       nor the plague that destroys at midday.

 7 A thousand may fall at your side,
       ten thousand at your right hand,
       but it will not come near you.

 8 You will only observe with your eyes
       and see the punishment of the wicked.

 9 If you make the Most High your dwelling-
       even the LORD, who is my refuge-

 10 then no harm will befall you,
       no disaster will come near your tent.

 11 For he will command his angels concerning you
       to guard you in all your ways;

 12 they will lift you up in their hands,
       so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.

 13 You will tread upon the lion and the cobra;
       you will trample the great lion and the serpent.

 14 "Because he loves me," says the LORD, "I will rescue him;
       I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.

 15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him;
       I will be with him in trouble,
       I will deliver him and honor him.

 16 With long life will I satisfy him
       and show him my salvation."
