Fall 2008

Greetings from our home here in Brasil!

We are doing well and I am really pleased with the performance of our children in school this year. As you know we are approaching the end of the school year here and the next two months will be really important for us to finish well! Please keep that in your prayers. We have also already started preparation for our Christmas program, so you can keep that in your prayers as well!

Joao PauloOur children are doing well, health wise as well. If you got to read Pai's update, you saw the great news about Joao Paulo and I want to write about him today!  Joao Paulo came to us two years ago and he is the little guy who is blind of an eye! His blindness happened due to abuse from his stepmother, who would drop his medication for severe ear infection into his eye and eventually blinded him! God in His great care has allowed him to be here at Lar and have a chance of seeing again. He does not remember ever seeing from his left eye.

When Marcia, our sister who manages the boys' dorm saw about JP's situation, she would not rest until she learned that there is a chance, there is hope. After many trips to the city where the Eye Institute is (which is also where Pai has his procedures done), doctors really believe a cornea transplant is all he needs. JP is going to have a cornea transplant and will be able to see really well, really soon. He is on the call list for October, so, any day in that month he will get a call to go in for the procedure! We cannot wait for that day!

All the preliminary tests have been done and he is in the call list. We will keep you posted on Joao's situation and as soon as we have a date for the surgery, we will let you know so you can be with us in prayer.

JP's favorite praise song is "Open the eyes of my heart, Lord" and he sings it from the top of his lungs! What a beautiful thing God has done in his life. He gave him a sound track for the miracle He is about to perform in JP's life! Sometimes I wonder if this is the reason why God allowed all that  to happen, so that JP could come to Lar Batista, so that his eyes could be open, first as he came to know the LORD as his Father, and then physically as well!

PrincessesOn a personal note I am doing well. We had a busy summer with many teams and having a great time taking the VBS into the schools! I was greatly encouraged by the many demonstrations of love and care I received from the teams! It energized me to keep on doing what God has called me to do here at Lar. I can only thank you for your love and prayers for our family!

Please continue to pray for me as I teach the children here at Lar.

Pray for Marcia as she manages the boy's dorm! She has her hands full! Praise the LORD she has just finished her Nursing School!!!

Please pray for Priscila Brito as she manages the kitchen.

Pray for Raquel as she assists us on all of our legal matters. She is also running for city council and her election day is October 5th!  It would be greatly beneficial for Lar if she is elected.

Thank you so much for your love and care for us!

In Him and for His children,

Rute

I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for ME!
