What is La Aljaba's Mission?
The children's home "La Aljaba" is an institution that assists orphans and children at risk to improve their quality of life by giving them the opportunity to benefit from physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual development to live a life Christ intended for them.
Who are the Founders of La Aljaba?
Black Buffalo was the President of the North American Indian Mission which has been working in the region mainly with the indigenous peoples in the communities and village on the river. At Black Buffalos invitation, Lucy visited in 2001. When she arrived he handed her the keys to the newly acquired property and asked her to stay. She was the first "mother" of the home. Black Buffalo has since retired.
What is La Aljaba's vision?
They are inspired by God's love and obeying His calling. "We will impact the Amazon community by teaching Christian values and principles to the children for future generations."
What are their general objectives?
La Aljaba's general objectives are to promote and support the development of children in poverty or extreme need offering opportunities to take part in: experiences of learning, physical well-being, self-confidence and social abilities, as well as the experience of the knowledge of the Christian life.
How is La Aljaba staffed?
Our staff consists of Christian individuals from different churches of which their number one priority is to share God's love and the desire to serve people in need. This is the character of the staff at La Aljaba.
How can I visit the orphanage?
La Aljaba is really concerned with the safety of its children and has certain guidelines for visitation. It would be really difficult for them to select qualified U.S. visitors. La Aljaba has determined that teams coming from the USA must come through one of its partner organizations with the Orphanos Foundation.
