Reflections on the greatness of God

posted by Grace Fragoso — June 1st, 2009

Greetings dear friends, I hope this update finds you well. By God's grace all is well. Thank you for your continued prayers, love, care and support. You are a wonderful part of my life.

I guess one of the best things that happened to me in the last few months was to start teaching a Bible study. In our group we have ladies in all stages of growth in their walk with the Lord, all kinds of religious backgrounds. I have had to dig more and more into the WORD to be able to present it in a way that makes sense to everyone. That helps us all to grow. Just like in short term missions, when you think you are doing something to help someone else, you come out of it with an even bigger blessing yourself.

I have indeed been blessed. My dear friends Kathleen and David Kizer just sent me a DVD by Louie Giglio, How Great is our God! He did an amazing job at showing us the macro picture of the universe and how intricate it is. How little we are in the big scheme of things and how much God loves us! He loves us enough to send His own Son to die for us. If you have not see that DVD, I really recommend it!

I woke up this morning thinking about Psalm 8. I really like the Psalmist David, and I believe that many times, like us, he had to pause and ponder on how amazing God really is and the fact that He chooses to love us. That thought comes, usually right after we mess things up and we wonder if we deserve all that we have, let alone who we are in Christ. David was excellent in taking it in the Macro picture of the universe that shows how great God is and bring it back to how small we are and the fact that God loves us far more than He would anything else in His amazing creation. We are the ones made in His image!

I love when God allows us to see snippets of His glory and that can keep me going for days! Here is a great example. Just a few days ago I was with a group of ladies celebrating my friend Angela Sneed's birthday. I was praying for her and also thanked the Lord for the baby which is being wonderfully made inside of her as we speak. She told me that as I prayed for the baby, she moved inside her womb!  That to me was an instant connection with that little child which will be hard to top. What a way to say AMEN!

I am preparing to go to Brasil with a team from Iowa. It will be a short time at home, but I am so excited to be there and to share the DVD I mentioned above with all the children at Lar! Yes, it has subtitles in Portuguese, among the many other languages. I encouraged our children to memorize Psalm 8 and we will have a great time. It will be a great opportunity to share more about how Great God is, in very practical ways that they can see in their everyday lives. These children are with us for a short time in their lives. What we teach them is what will give them foundation for their future. I am so blessed that they will have not only seen and heard but also experienced the greatness of our God after living at Lar Batista!

Please keep me and the team in your prayers as we leave on June 5th, returning on the 16th!

To our AWESOME GOD be the glory

Soli Deo Gloria!

Psalm 8

O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
       You have set your glory
       above the heavens.

2From the lips of children and infants
       you have ordained praise
       because of your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.

3 When I consider your heavens,
       the work of your fingers,
       the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,

4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?

5 You made him a little lower than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor.

6 You made him ruler over the works of your hands;
you put everything under his feet:

7 all flocks and herds,
and the beasts of the field,

8 the birds of the air,
and the fish of the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 O LORD, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
